Sandy Relief, Brooklyn and otherwise

Do you see this adorable old man? This is Mitik. He’s an orphaned baby walrus at the New York aquarium. 

During Hurricane Sandy, our aquarium was devastated. It’s right on the water, and there was horrible flooding and damage. Not a big deal, right? All the animals live in water!

Actually, since it shot their electricity, all the delicate life support systems at the aquarium were damaged. And they desperately need money to restore their facility. I’ve spent a lot of time with WCS, the organization that runs NYC’s zoos and aquariums, and they do great work for conservation and for the animals they keep.
